The Judicial Sanctions/Outcomes listed on this page are provided by the Chapter's respective governing Council (Collegiate Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, or National Pan-Hellenic Council) for violations of Council Bylaws and expectations. Sanctions/Outcomes provided by the University are adjudicated through the Office of Student Conduct for violations of the Student Code of Conduct and can be found here

The Chapter will hold a face-to-face educational session led by Chapter Leadership and the Alumni Corporation Board. They'll cover important topics like risk management policies, Chapter Bylaws, and rules for living in the Chapter Facility, including the importance of substance-free housing.

  • This program shall occur before Monday, August 19, 2024, and the Chapter President will provide documentation to the IFC Vice President of Judicial Affairs no later than Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Failure to do so will result in further judicial action.
  • When the Fraternity is able to facilitate an in-person presentation the attendance, documentation, and follow-up requirements will be as follows:
    • Attendance for this program must greater than or equal to 85% of the total membership that is living in the Facility.

The Chapter will host an in-person educational program facilitated by and IHQ (Fraternity) staff member regarding the Fraternity’s risk management policies and procedures, including, but not limited to substance free housing.

  • The Chapter will follow-up via email with the IFC Vice President of Judicial Affairs to inform them of whether or not the IHQ is able to send a staff member to facilitate an in-person presentation for the membership during the Spring 2024 semester. In the event that the Fraternity is unable to facilitate an in-person presentation by Friday, April 26, 2024, the Chapter will have identified a date for the Fall 2024 semester that will occur before Monday, September 9, 2024, and provide documentation no later than Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Failure to do so will result in further judicial action. If the Fraternity is able to provide the presentation by Friday, April 26, 2024, documentation should be sent to the IFC VP of Judicial Affairs and Advisor no later than Monday, April 28, 2024.
  • When the Fraternity is able to facilitate an in-person presentation the attendance, documentation, and follow-up requirements will be as follows:
    • Attendance for this program must greater than or equal to 80% of the total membership size.

The Chapter President will collaborate with the Chapter Advisors, Chapter Leadership, and the IHQ (Fraternity) staff to develop a plan that would better educate the members on the policies, procedures, and practices of the Fraternity including but not limited to alcohol, substances, and social responsibility.

  • Schedule a training/presentation with SFE staff to learn about policies and procedures relating to registering events with alcohol. Members present at that training/presentation must include President, Vice President, Social Chair, and any other members/officers involved in event planning.
  • The Chapter must register all wet events at least 4 weeks in advance of the event throughout the duration of Fall 2023.The Chapter must host at least one internal training/program on Emotional IQ and Situational Awareness with an attendance of 85% or greater of the Chapter's Membership.
    • These events must be registered at least four weeks in advance, but the Chapter has until 24 hours before the event to have it approved by the IFC/SFE Event Management Team. This is so that the Chapter has plenty of time to work out the details related to the event.
  • The Chapter must host at least one internal training/program on Emotional IQ and Situational Awareness with an attendance of 85% or greater of the Chapter's Membership.
    • The Chapter may either host this event internally or open it up to the greater Sorority and Fraternity Community, but the Chapter must still have at least 85% of its Membership in attendance.

  • The Chapter is required to complete two trainings related to health, safety, alcohol, etc. with a Chapter attendance of 85% or greater in the Fall of 2023.
    • Trainings such as tight rope and fraternal health and safety initiative will be permitted as proper trainings for the Chapter.
      • Alternative trainings will need to be reviewed by the IFC VP of Judicial Affairs prior to completion to be approved.
  • Failure to complete these two trainings will result in a forfeiture of dry and wet social events for the Spring of 2024.The Chapter must schedule a meeting/training with a staff member from the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Engagement to learn more about policies and procedures related to event registration, including events with alcohol. Members present at the training/meeting must include President, VP, Social Chair, and any others involved in planning events with alcohol (must be done by end of Fall 2023 semester).

Clause 1: 

  • One dry social event will be permitted for the Fall of 2023. Upon successful registration and execution of that dry event (proper following of policies and procedures outlined in the IFC Bylaws and SFE guidelines), dry events will then be permitted for Fall of 2023. Failure to follow policy and proper procedure during this initial dry event will result in mediation with IFC VP of Judicial Affairs and IFC Event Management to discuss future events. For more information on event registration policy and procedure, please connect with the IFC VP of Event Management, (ifceventman@iastate.edu). Events such as homecoming, serenades, recruitment events, etc. will not be affected by clause 1 and are fully permitted.

Clause 2: 

  • The Chapter must complete one alcohol safety/event safety related training or presentation, facilitated by a third-party facilitator with an 80%-chapter attendance required. The Chapter must host two community service events with a minimum participation of 2/3 of the Chapter's membership. The two service events must not occur within 7 days of one another. The Chapter must properly document the details of each event and record attendance, later submitted to the IFC VP of Judicial Affairs in order to count.
  • The Chapter must schedule a workshop with the Iowa State Academic Success Center with 80% minimum attendance from the Chapter's membership, providing documentation to the Vice President of Judicial Affairs.

Clause 3:

  • Upon successful completion of Clause 2, registration of one event with alcohol will be permitted. Proper planning (registration) and execution of this event (following policies and procedures outlined in the IFC Bylaws and SFE Events with Alcohol document) will be required to permit all events with alcohol in the future. If the event with alcohol is not properly planned and executed, mediation with IFC VP of Judicial Affairs and IFC Event Management will be necessary as well as any other relevant parties.
