Lambda Chi Alpha

On June 2, 1917 the Iowa State chapter was installed as the Alpha Tau Zeta chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha. Our roots were in the Alamo Club, a local eating club founded on April 15, 1909.Our chapter was forced to close in 1934 because of the Great Depression, but was reinstated on December 6, 1948 thanks to the efforts of alumni brothers Howard Crist, Seth Winslow, Bill Groesbeck, and Dr. Harry Shadle, Professor of Finance. We are the fastest growing fraternity with over 10,000 undergraduate members throughout North America. Our chapter's no hazing policy has been in place for over half a century, and we abandoned the pledge-ship concept a quarter century ago. Our newest members are associate members and have all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of initiated members, except those issues involving the Initiation Ritual. Our new True Brother initiative is the basis of our member education program for both associate and initiated members. It is based on the seven core values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service and Stewardship, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. It is proven to ease the transition for members from high school to the college environment. Eleven of thirteen living suites in our chapter house were completely remodeled during the summer of 2004. The renovated suits have a new bathroom, furnishings, and individually controlled HVAC unit and is protected by both fire alarm and suppression system.
