Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by five young and ambitious women. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded with the principles of Scholarship, Service, and Sisterhood and the ideal of Finer Womanhood. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is a "Community Conscious, Action Orientated" organization. Since its founding, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has accumulated a number of firsts. Zeta Phi Beta was the first greek-letter organization to charter a chapter in Africa, first to have adult and youth auxiliary groups, first to have all operations organized at a national headquarters, and first to be constitutionally bound to a brother fraternity Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
