Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. was founded at California State University, Chico on March 11th, 1986. Since then, Lambda Theta Nu has focused on providing an environment for personal growth within a unit of sisterhood and is an inclusive sisterhood, with members from many different races and ethnicities. The sorority is built on three pillars; Academics, Service, and Sisterhood. At Iowa State, Lambda Theta Nu was founded on April 14, 2007. The Silver Roses focus on giving back to their community through volunteer efforts, activism, and fundraising for donations to different organizations and our national philanthropy, Tijeras. Tijeras, scissors in Spanish, is represented by the two blades of academic excellence and community service held together by the pin of our sisterhood. The programs’ main components are directed at addressing issues of Latina leadership skills development, Latino Literacy and increasing higher education accessibility. Each year we continue to raise the bar towards the advancement of literacy within our communities, and we strive to be a positive impact as we reach out to promote the importance of higher education to young women.
