Alpha Kappa Lambda - Psi

Ames, IA 50014
In April of 1914, the Los Amigos club formed a national fraternity at the University of California in Berkeley. That fraternity is Alpha Kappa Lambda. Today AKL has chapters located coast-to-coast of the United States. The Fraternity has over 22,000 initiated members and has granted charters on 76 campuses. Our national mission statement dedicates us to "Develop a brotherhood, who, guided by the Five Ideals, share a lifelong commitment to AKL and are dedicated to assuming leadership roles in meeting the challenges and responsibilities of life." We are Men of Character who have been at Iowa State strong since 1961.

Philanthropy | Our two main philantrhopic causes are the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and domestic abuse awareness. Each Spring, we participate and sponsor the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. The money raised enables JDRF to fund research that will lead to cures for millions of people with diabetes. We work with the ACCESS shelter and the YWCA to collaborate on our national philanthropic project, "These Hands Don't Hurt" -- taking a stand as fraternity men against violence against women. We raise money for ACCESS and the YWCA as well as provide educational programming. |
