Derrick serves as the Senior Assistant Director within the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Engagement. In this role, Derrick provides leadership programming for the Sorority and Fraternity Community, centering student retention and success, assessment, accountability, and communication. Prior to returning to Iowa State, Derrick served as the Coordinator of Student Organizations & Fraternity and Sorority Life at DePaul University (Chicago), advising the Interfraternity Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council. Prior to working at DePaul, Derrick also served on the National Staff at Chi Phi Fraternity as Coordinator of Chapter Development.

Originally from Clear Lake, Iowa, Derrick received a Bachelor of Arts in World Languages and Cultures – Spanish Language and Literature and International Conflict and Communication from Iowa State University and a Master of Business Administration – Ethical Leadership from Schreiner University.

As a student at Iowa State University, Derrick was involved in a variety of student organizations ranging from Latino Heritage Committee, Black Student Alliance to serving as a student program volunteer within SFE. Derrick remains active within Chi Phi Fraternity, serving as a Grader for the National Accreditation Committee and Founder & Co-Chairman of the National Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Fun Fact: Derrick is a Founding Member of the Alpha-Pi Chapter of Chi Phi Fraternity (Iowa State University) and an honorary Initiate of two other Chi Phi Chapters: Iota Delta (Indiana University, Bloomington) and Upsilon Theta (University of Tampa).

Derrick has served as a judge for FSL/Leadership Awards programs for both Lafayette College and Illinois State University and has volunteered for Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.

When not at work, you can find Derrick singing, cooking, traveling, volunteering with community-centric organizations, and spending time with friends and family.
